Steve appeared, at first, to be the only fairly normal person in the house, but when he was "dumped" by his "girlfriend" (who he "met" on the Internet; he has never seen a picture of her, and they don't even speak the same language), he turned out to be just as strange as the rest of them, if not more so; he was taken over by an individual known as Evets, which apparently happens on a regular basis.
